The meeting started with an institutional presentation where Dr. Joan Albert Barberà, Research Associate Director of IDIBAPS, introduced the institution that leads the project. Among other participants, Mr. Albert Moreno, European Union Secretary of the Catalan Government, and Dr. Toni Dedeu, Director of the Catalan Heath Ministry of International Relations and Cooperation Office, did a presentation of the research in Catalonia and its growing importance in the European research. After the scientific meeting to discuss all the Work Packages of the project, Prof. Jessica Zucman-Rossi, Head of Inserm unit U674, Génomique Fonctionnelle des tumeurs solides, offered a scientific presentation about “Identification of drivers through sequencing in cancer”.

By defining biomarkers for identification of HCC patients with poor-prognosis and novel genetic or epigenetic drivers, HEPTROMIC will achieve the breakthroughs that are critical for developing more personalized therapeutic approaches. Findings obtained from human tissue samples by applying state-of-the-art technology will be confirmed in sophisticated experimental models and translated into novel biomarkers and targets for high impact clinical use. HEPTROMIC’s core team comprises leading European and American researchers in the basic, translational and clinical fields of liver cancer. Its aim is to lay down a foundation for a sustainable network of expertise based on complex, system level, translational research approaches in liver cancer and closely related disease areas. The project is willing to open up revolutionary new research horizons in liver cancer over the next decade.

The fight against Hepatocellular Carcinoma is the challenge… HEPTROMIC is the answer.
